Morning Weather Update

The latest look at the radar picture this morning shows continued rain and mixed precipitation over the area. Showers and thunderstorms exist along a line from Dubuque to Ottumwa with freezing rain/sleet/snow to the west toward Des Moines south of Interstate 80. The low pressure system navigating this activity through the area continues it’s trek east as it begins to head over Lake Michigan; the stationary front has exited the state by this point.

Road conditions continue to improve, however but of the state remains to be partially covered with ice. Please take it easy as you head out this morning. Winter Weather Advisories have been dropped for the western part of the state (except for Lyon county where light snow is falling) and remain for places farther east where ice continues to be an issue. An Areal Flood Watch is in effect for southeast and east central Iowa through this evening. The ground is frozen, and heavy rain here on top of this ground may lead to some localized flooding along rivers and area streams.

Stay tuned to the Iowa Weather Network for the latest information!
